Oprah is on Twitter! The picture above is her first official tweet on the hottest microblogging / social network now.

Oprah Winfrey officially joined Twitter after naming Asthon Kutcher as Twitter King. CNET announces Oprah’s first day as Twitter’s Big Day! And 15 minutes after her signed-up, she already have 76,000 followers, and the end of her first day (as of this posting), she have 299,834 followers.

On her first day, Oprah only made 10 tweets, and what interesting tweets they were! She tweeted The Shaq and , pledged additional 20,000 mosquito nets to Demi Moore.

And if you noticed Oprah’s first tweet were in ALL CAPS, Shaq was quick on the button and reminded her that her Caps lock is On. Would anyone dare to tell that her too?

Interesting names she follows too – Larry King, Ellen DeGeneres, and of course Kutcher and Moore. She only follow 10 Twitterers at present – well, a person in her status can really who to follow.

Not that she really needs it, but with Kutcher’s 1 million ‘influence’ on Twitterville, expect Oprah’s to reach that mark too… and perhaps in record breaking time.

With Oprah on Twitter, we can expect it to be on limelight more often now – and not to mention, and an even busier network.

No, I haven’t followed any of these celebrities yet. I’m afraid I might get overwhelmed should they follow back.

Of course, it doesn’t mean that I will not follow them ever.

There are good things that can result from Twitter after all. An example is a tweet from Demi Moore which helps save the life of a woman.

Demi Moore replied to a tweet which she received, about a woman who threatened to commit suicide. She was in southern France, with actor-husband Ashton Kutcher, when she read the tweet. Quickly she replied to the threat saying, “Hope you are joking.”

When you’re a celebrity like Demi Moore, it is but natural to have a lot (humongous) followers. Followers were able to track the message to a San Jose, California home, which they immediately reported to the police.

Upon arriving, the police found a 48-year old woman and took her into custody for a psychological evaluation. They found the woman unharmed, but in need of help.

She met the criteria for a 72-hour psychological evaluation, and she was taken to a hospital for that treatment.

Although the police said that it was a “concerned citizen” and not Moore nor Kutcher who called their office about the threat on Twitter, I wonder if it would have the save ending if it wasn’t received by someone as famous as Moore.

Reminds me of the news not too long ago, about a teenager who committed suicide in front of her webcam (or was it a boy?). People have watched her and some even egged her believing she won’t be able to do it.

Eventually she did, when people decided to call the authorities, it was too late.

Fortunately, twitter followers take tweets seriously which led to the saving of the woman’s life.

I actually saw this as a discussion on MyLot and I got curious so I searched for it on the web.

Kind of give me the goosebumps too, because just last night, I wrote a suicidal poem… coincidence?

Okay, I admit, I am on Twitter too… these days, who isn’t? But so far though, it hasn’t taken over my life… not yet, especially my blogging life.

When I was still new with Twitter, I was surprised and find it rather absurd that people would post things like “eating dinner now” or “what a day!” and I was asking myself, “where they talking to me?”

There were some though, who admits that Twitter has taken over their lives.

But as I learn to understand the concept of tweeting, about following and followers, I began to appreciate the system and they were not as puzzling to me as they were before.

Indeed, it seems to be a fast-growing social network. Even celebrities weren’t spared from the twitter-bug. Twitter was even blamed for the Mayer-Aniston break-up.

That’s how influential Twitter is getting now. It’s taking over lives of people.

Fortunately for me, I still have control and blogging is still my priority. But since I tweet and I blog, why not blog about tweeting?

But I don’t know what to blog about Twitter. I tweet about my blogs, that for sure. But the other way around… hmmm, I really didn’t know where to start.

I don’t like telling ‘how-to’s’ or ‘what not to do’ and other why, when, where stuff about tweeting. For one, I’m not really an expert, since like I said I really don’t tweet that much.

And then I found this video on YouTube, about a man’s who is encouraging his friend to tweet, and how his friend countered that pressure.

Before, you watch it, be sure to have your sense of humor turn on.

Oh well, just watch it anyway.

It was funny to me. That’s why I thought of sharing it.
