Last Wednesday, Catholics all over the world celebrated Ash Wednesday which officially starts the Lenten season that will end after 40 days on Easter Sunday.

Incidentally, last Wednesday was February 25, and Filipinos celebrated… err, commemorated the day of the EDSA Revolution. The day when 23 years ago, a bloodless revolt was seen to end the 20 years reign of a dictator.

Was it just a co-incidence that this year’s Ash Wednesday was celebrated on the same day of the anniversary of the People Power revolution?

The message of Ash Wednesday was “from dust you came… unto dust you shall return…” which reminds us that nothing is permanent on this earth. We are all just passers by… and soon we’ll be going home to Our Father who created us all.

Like I said, People Power was instrumental in ending a 20-year rule of then President Marcos – an event that was thought to be almost impossible to happen. Yet, through the miracles of divine intervention, it happened and brought new hope to the whole nation.

In these days where talks of Charter Change, a prayer of serving the Filipinos beyond 2010, and an uncanny efforts, as claimed by some, by the incumbent to cling into power… Ash Wednesday is a clear reminder that nothing in this world is permanent… not even power.

Because there is a much Powerful and Divine Authority than the so-called ‘powers that be’ here on earth.

Still think Ash Wednesday and EDSA Revolution 2009 was just a co-incidence?
