The Struggling Blogger

If I write, will you read? If I beg, will you feed?

A blogger can dream, can’t he?

At the start of 2009, I made a very bold statement when I included in my goals and plans for the year that I would receive a ‘real world’ blogging award. It was a shot in the dark. I do not know of any blogging awards, but I knew that with a big community such as the bloggers, there exists an award-giving body of sort.

True enough, by August of last year, I was awarded third among the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2009, an award I worked so hard for to attain. Going outside my comfort zone just to make sure that I get noticed. I made noise.

But aside from the noise, I made sure that I am worth the vote. I wrote my best personal blogging pieces during that campaign period. Not just because I wanted to win, but because I wanted to impart something. I wanted to be a blogger with sense, and not just a blogger who rants and points accusing fingers.

That’s why the victory was sweet… but not for long. In a blink of an eye, everything turned sour. I was not even allowed to celebrate.

All this time I kept quiet, but it doesn’t mean I was not hurt. But I hold the truth. And they can’t take that away — not by numbers and loud rah-rah-rahs.

This year, I have bigger dreams. More ambitious, and perhaps may even seem to be close to impossible at this time. But a blogger can dream, right?

As of late, I am feeling stubborn enough to work on the publication of my poetry book, sans availability of funds. I also plan to send my songs to recording companies. And the craziest thus far of my ideas – to vie for the Philippine Blog Awards 2010.

“What?! The Philippine Blog Awards?!”

Yes, I know how you feel. I checked the websites, the categories, the criteria and the previous winners. I am a black sheep, wanting to be included in the herd of white flocks.

Do I stand a chance? I don’t know. To be honest, I don’t. But what have I got to lose? It’s not the Palanca for Pete’s sake!

Tell me frankly, am I not qualified? If you think I am not, no worries. Click that ‘Back’ button anytime now. If you said I am, then are you willing to support me in this delirious endeavor?

No, don’t nod. I can’t see that. Put your answer below, and let it serve as a commitment of your support. I need that.

“Is this really important?”

To me it is. More than the recognition, it’s the acceptance – respect, and the quest to make all those who know me feel proud that they do.

It’s also to prove that a simplistic, low-profile blogger like me – who doesn’t attend all bloggers’ meet-up, products launching and other high profile events, has a place in this blogosphere.

That I don’t need to skydive from a plane soaring thousand miles up in the sky, trek the highlands, nor dive among the whales in the sea in order to have an adventure.

That I need not lambaste our government officials, authorities, and the system in general to show that I am a concerned citizen. Especially, if I would not even offer any solution at all.

I offer no high-fallutin’ words, no climactic adventures, nor glamorous celebrities. I can only give honest and sincere opinions. And sometimes, my posts don’t even have any significance with the current events happening around us. Nonetheless, they can still be quite entertaining, I can assure you that.

So is it far-fetched? Is it too ambitious?

Tell me… tell me what to do so I can have a good shot at it.

And to end this piece, let me introduce myself especially to those who haven’t seen where I came from…

I am the man that blogging built… I am The Struggling Blogger, and I breathe blogs.

Thank you.
