How we observed Earth Hour 2010

For the last two years, we have observed Earth Hour and turned off all our lights for one whole hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Tonight, March 27, 2010 was no different, as we participated once again in the Earth Hour 2010. And just like in the previous years, not only do we turn off the lights, we also turned off other electrical appliances at home – no TV, no electric fan, and even the computer.

For one hour we were gathered together, waiting for one hour to pass.

It was hot, because it’s summer. I told Angel that she can turn on the electric fan because her skin gets irritated when it’s hot. But she declined, and instead used the good old “pamaypay” to help her tolerate the heat.

Edgar was playing with his guitar, which I borrowed after a while.

And while there weren’t any lights on, we were not really in total darkness because we have one candle providing us with light.

Candle on Earth Hour

As I was looking at the lone candlelight, it felt symbolical to me… a flicker of light, amidst the darkness.

I knew I need to take a picture of it.

Ralph was rather dismayed though. He looked out and saw that the lights in most of our neighbors’ houses were on, which means they were not participating in the Earth Hour.

Two things – they were not aware or they are not concerned.

With the information drive being done about the Earth Hour in prints, radio, television and the internet, I don’t think there are still some people who are not aware of it. Then, it would be a sad thing to realize that they are not really concern.

I am not one to judge them. Maybe they have their reason.

But as far as me and my kids are concern, we will continue to participate in future Earth Hour activities. It may not be much, but in our own little way we can say that we did our part in helping save our one and only planet… for the sake of the future generations.

Way to go Roy! :D I personally think this is a great initiative and that even though there are those who do not participate, slowly but surely, people are beginning to realize how one simply act, if done by a lot of people, can truly affect the world.

Woot woot! Nice entry kuya roy. We observed din Earth Hour. And its good thing na mga neighbors namin halos lahat patay ilaw. The kids playing on the street and the manang’s chit chatting.

Btw, Angel is big na. We really cant stop the kids to grow up. Very pretty Angel.

Dun sa dati namin tinitirhan, lahat ng katabi namin, puro patay ang ilaw. I don’t why it’s not the same in our new neighborhood.

This is my third Earth Hour!

I celebrated by meditating and sending living vibes out to all creatures, near and far. I like to do that sometimes, just concentrate on showering all the best energy I can, it does ripple out to infinity, I think.

Sweet pics! Nothing like candle light.

That’s cool! Yeah we participate again this year. But I think our neighbors were not that active. But our city here in Calapan Or. Mindoro participated too. THe streetlights, the lights at the park were turned off at 8pm to 9pm. We saw how the streets became dark, my sister and I were walking to buy ice cream because it was too hot. And yeah it was really cool. We did that to protect and make a contribution for our Mother Earth. I hope everyone could participate next time. Besides the outcome of it will benefit all of us. We could also save and make another contribution through doing simple things such as removing all the unused plug of the appliances, using an eco-friendly stuffs, tree planting, etc. Even if we do it simply, it’s outcome is huge.
