The Struggling Blogger

If I write, will you read? If I beg, will you feed?

Jet lag!

I know that one needs to travel and go to a country with a different time zone for him to experience jet lag.

I didn’t leave the country… never even left our town, and yet it’s like I have entered into a different time zone too.

This is because I now follow a different time schedule.

I used to follow a different schedule before. No, let me correct that – I didn’t follow any schedule actually.

Being unemployed, in the guise of a full-time blogger, I own my time. I get up when I want to wake up and I sleep anytime I want to. So basically, I am in a time zone of my own.

But recently, I got hired. This distorts entirely my body clock, or at least what I was accustomed to.

Now, I need to wake up early, go to work, go home, dinner, and retire for the night – a very routinely-scheduled way of life, if you ask me.

Of course I’m not complaining… I have to admit, that I need a real job and this one just fell on my lap, so I have to make the most of it, for the sake of my children.

Unfortunately, if you noticed what is lacking in my new routine, my work has really affected my blogging – BIG TIME!

If you have known me for quite a while, you’ll understand how important blogging is to me for it has kept me company for the last two years, and because of this I was able to keep my (in)sanity.

Two years of blogging has brought me more fulfillment than what my more than 10 years of corporate experience before has given me. I was able to find friends, gain humble successes, some hits and misses in-betweens, but most of all, it has brought me back to my real self.

So you could just imagine the pain of “withdrawals” I’m suffering right now.

Because unfortunately, while blogging has given me some providence, practicality dictates that I find a solid source of income for the sake of my kids, and with one that was handed to me, I wouldn’t want to miss chance to be able to take care of their future.

I do hope that is only temporary – the  “jetlag” I mean – and once I get used to my new time zone, maybe I could get back to regular blogging… maybe not as frequent as I used to, but at least on a regular basis.

…not that I’m being missed.

I understand perfectly what you feel about the structured time. It is very difficult indeed to adjust especially if you’d been used to it for several years now. It would be a constant struggle for months. But it can be done. You have your three beautiful angels to inspire you.

Eventually , you’ll find the balance between working and blogging. Good luck, you can do it!

That must be really, really tough. Can you rest/sleep while you blog?

Perhaps the downtime can be used thinking about your posts – writing them in your head, at least the basic outline and important points? Or be like Elmot. He always has this notebook with him… I know it’s not the same. Just thinking out loud here. :)

    indeed Jan, it’s tough!

like last night, I wasn’t even able to check my email, I slept at 7pm! imagine that!

just because I was tired… I’m not used to getting tired anymore!

it will really take some time before I get adjusted to this.

Congratulations, Roy. It gets easier, once everyone adjusts to a new routine. How are the kids doing with the changes? They’re old enough to help out, maybe get all their work done before you pick them up. It’ll be fine. You all have a guardian angel to watch over you, as well.
