Do I feel influential?

More than a month after I received my first blogging award, I still ask myself the same question I was asking as I was on my way home on that evening of August 8. As my certificate would say, my blog was one of the top 10 emerging influential blogs for 2009.

EIB Certificate - The Struggling Blogger

But really, do I feel influential?

Frankly, no. But fortunately for me, there is a qualifying word to the award, and that is ‘emerging’ which means I am still on my way out, and with a potential to be influential… an emerging influential blogger.

If you look at it, the award is more of a challenge – a challenge to live up to the expectations given by such recognition.

So, whether I am really influential or not, an emerging one at least, it is a challenge that I have to live with – to finally emerge as one.

But then, a second question quickly follows – Do I deserve the award?

Now, that is a tricky one.

If I said yes, it would make me appear like an air-head blogger who is so into himself. Which is of course, I am not. Otherwise, I would have named myself the air-head blogger instead of the struggling blogger.

But if I said no, it’s like insulting all those who believed and voted for me for the said award. I would like to think that they know what they were doing when they submitted their nominations.

Seriously now, I would liken this award to this gift given to me by my daughter Angel for Father’s Day two years ago.

World's Greatest Tatay

Yes, you read that right! It says, “World’s Greatest Tatay” (world greatest father).

So, do you think I really am the world’s greatest father? “Not by a long shot!” some might reply, and they couldn’t be farther from the truth.

But as you can see, as far as my daughter is concerned, I AM THE WORLD’S GREATEST FATHER! And based on the merit of the award, she is the only one in the position to say so whether I am indeed one or not.

What I’m trying to say is that, more than the recipient, it’s actually the giver who lends credibility – the one who adds prestige to any award or recognition.

With that being said, I’d like to thank most especially Janette Toral for giving me such an honor, and of course, those who voted and believed in me – before, during and after the competition.

Lastly, my very late congratulatory message to all those who were included to the said list of top 10.

Congratulations to the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009!

Congratulation, Roy, for winning the World’s Greatest Dad title.

You’re very secretive. Why is it we were not told of the awarding ceremony. We could have dropped everything and rushed to Angeles City, you know? ahahaha.

As for being influential blogger, of course, you’re way too much influential, Roy. The mere mention of your name causes many a person’s blood pressure to rise very sharply, I can only imagine. lols You’ve caused a lot of good people to be thankful you’ve made it since you truly deserve that award.

Don’t second-guess yourself too much, Roy. Besides, as truly influential persons go, you look askance and skeptical of your influence! That’s one of the remarkable qualities of influential people. They who are hardly conscious of it exert the greatest influence – simply because guys like you have their heads firmly in place in their shoulders.

Congratulations, Roy, on your two great achievements. Well deserved, Roy. :)

    hahaha… I wonder I don’t get award every father’s day? :)

you’re right Jan, “the mere mention of my name causes many a person’s blood pressure to rise” and what’s funny about is that, it has always been like that since my pre-blogging days… and I always thought I was one of the goodguys! :)

seriously, like I said in my post, I’m proud and honored to belong in the same list where you are ;)

Although we have not talked that much during the awards night, I felt that you are a such a great father.

I included your blog because I checked it out and proven that it is really influential. I must admit, there were others who recommend me a list of nominees and your blog is included.

However, I decline some of them and choose only who I think deserves the award.

For me, I honestly believe that you are a very influential blogger.

    Thanks!
