Aside from Manny Pacquiao…
There are lot of events worth taking note of in the recent Pacquiao-Hatton match, aside from the fact that Pacquiao knocked Hatton out in Round 2… and that is most especially true when you are watching a (very) delayed telecast on free-TV.
Here are my observations:
Yup! The Animal, The Beast from the East, the superstar wrestler half-Filipino wrestler Batista was part of Pacquiao’s entourage when he entered the ring! And by the words of the announcers, he made sure he’ll be behind Pacquiao in the match.
He is indeed proud of being a Filipino.
Martin Nievera singing the Lupang Hinirang
I had my reservations. I knew it will happen. Great singers tend to do it — owning a song by making their own arrangement and interpretation. But alas! As the NHI says, the National Anthem is not something that they have liberty to sing as they wish. It is strict in its rhythm and tempo – there is even a law for it.
Martin Nievera refuses to apologize, “I didn’t ask to sing it, Manny ask me to,” is not a statement that surprises me. After all, the way he speaks, you know very well that he didn’t grow up here. Can you expect any attachment to the song from him?
I really believe Lea Salonga would have been a better choice, because she sings a song based on its actual note… and not to prove that she’s a good singer.
Political campaign/advertisement
In the guise of public service. Now we know who are some of the people who are aiming to belong to the senatorial line-up of the administration in the coming Philippine 2010 election.
From the finance department, the gambling… err, gaming department and the technical education department, who I’m pretty sure will be free from any electioneering charges because no Comelec ‘have seen the actual ads so they are not in a position to judge.
And of course, the presidential aspirant in Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. Just search the web and you’ll see all the sentiments of all the people who’ve seen the ad. Perhaps the only one with a different opinion was his wife.
Since these are public officials, questions would definitely be asked as to which funds were used to pay for them. Your guess is as good as mine.
Faster punches than Pacquiao can throw
I just have to vent this out! Relying on free-TV really suck! BIG TIME! That was the longest two rounds I have seen.
With Hatton laying down on the mat even before 11 AM, and yet the fight hasn’t started on GMA 7 even if it was already 1 PM. I don’t remember any ‘delayed telecast’ as delayed as last Sunday’s fight.
With Channel 7 throwing commercials faster that Pacquiao can throw punches, definitely they are a big winner too!
Last and definitely not the least… Jacq Yu’s commercial!
Need I say more?

Sinabihan na si Martin ni Maestro Ryan Cayabyab na mag-ingat sa pagkanta ng national anthem. Ayun, di nakinig. Eh di nadale. Hehe.

So, Batista is half-Filipino? That is nice to know. Specially because he is proud, as you said, to be one.
So, a Filipino boxer fighting internationally and a Filipino wrestler. Kulang na lang is Filipino sa UFC. O baka meron ba? di ko alam.

Nanonood ako ng wrestling noon kada Mierkules ng gabi. Pero high school pa ako nun. Kaso di na gaano ngayon. (Blog hopping na eh.)

@ elmot
his being big-mouthed and fast talker is actually his asset, it’s what made him a great late night host then…. it’s only that he doesn’t want to listen sometimes… like now
@ Luke
I won’t even ask kung sino na inabutan mong sikat nuon… but I guess hindi pa naman kalayuan nuon.
I started watching wrestling when hulk hogan and randy savage were still the hottest wrestlers.
too bad, wala nang wrestling sa free-TV ngayon

I also forgot sino yung mga sikat nun. But definitely isa si Hulk Hogan. Basta mga late 80’s – early 90’s. There’s also this player who has a parrot and one who has a snake. A python I think.
