“Congratulations! You passed the university entrance exam!”… NOT!
Talk about washing away your hopes… BIG TIME!
Just imagine receiving news that you made it, only to receive an apology later which says, “there was an error, you did not pass.” Those were not the exact words, but the UC San Diego created a huge blunder when it sent congratulatory e-mails to all those who took their college entrance test…
including 29,000 hopefuls who didn’t pass the test.
You can just imagine the emotional torture that this brought the students and their parents. Some have even made bookings to hotels near the school just to be able to attend the university “Admit Day” with their family.
The wrong acceptance e-mails were discovered a little later, and immediately another e-mail was sent apologizing for the error to the 29,000 students who received what was supposed to be a good news.
I can just imagine the feeling of being doused with cold water here… and of course, you can expect the school’s telephone ringing like crazy. While they admit their mistake, the feeling giving false hope and then taking it away cannot just be easily brushed off.
Although this incident isn’t the first time in universities in the US, but so far, UCSD’s case is the biggest.
A lot of students, and parents, I’m sure were very much frustrated and dissapointed. I believe, UCSD is one of the prominent school (to recieve that much applications) and committing a big blunder like that is definitely a no-no.
Well, so much for technology… which is only as effective and efficient as the ones who use it.
