I’m not really that big on pistachios, but I won’t mind helping myself should I get some.

The latest news is that one California plant recalls 1 million pounds of pistachio products. The nuts came from Setton Farms in Terra Bella California, about 75 miles of Fresno.

The food processing plant started recalling up to 1 million of pounds of roasted pistachio products for fear that they may have been contaminated with salmonella, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

These productst, usually distributed in 2,000-pound containers, were distributed to food wholesalers who would either re-pack for resale or use them as ingredients for other food products, such as ice cream.

Unlike in the case of the peanut butter recall then, the pull out of pistachio products was not prompted by any sickness outbreak. It is referred to as a “pro-active” move on the part of the processing plant.

FDA has already issued warning to avoid pistachios amidst salmonera scare. They are requested the public though, not to throw them away, but rather to keep them to make recalling them easier, and tracing of the virus outbreak faster.

In the Philippines, we really do not have that much of these kind of nuts of here. But we do have them, especially in the many duty free shops around the country. Let’s just hope that they also be looked into by our own food and drug agency.
