A Filipino won P6.6M in Readers Digest contest!
Just recently, I posted some old article from Readers Digest in my other blog just because I chance upon an old issue of the said magazine. Surfing the net this morning, I stumbled upon a good news from Philippine Daily Inquirer - a Filipino won P6.6 M from Reader’s Digest!
Yes, a Pinoy wins P6.6 M in Readers Digest contest!
If you have been subscribing to RD before, I’m sure you’re familiar with those thick medium-sized envelopes that comes to us through snail mail. Those sweepstakes wherein you have to choose a “Yes” or “No” along with some other questionaires, suryveys, and even a key to a car!
I’m sure you were at one time or another, have been irritated by them too and disregarded them just as well.
Nicolas Dangcalan, 44-year old from Cebu City, has felt that way too, especially since he hasn’t won in any of those RD contest that he joined before. Neither did he have any luck in other lotteries too.
But Dangcalan, who has been an RD subscriber since 1990, decided to join again in 2008 as he received one of those sweepstakes mails from RD. And guess what? He even choose “NO!” signifying that he is not interested in whatever Reader’s Digest has to offer.
He then sent it without really expecting to win anything.
On the draw on January 13, 2009 which was held in Singapore his entry won him the P6.6 M grand prize!
What’s funny, as per the news on Inquirer said, is that their 3 kids were not aware that their father won. Dangcalan said that he and his wife are waiting for the right time and thinking of the right way to deliver the news to their children. They don’t want them to be overwhelmed and think that money is the answer to everything.
Maybe it’s such an attitude towards money that caused fate to bless Dangcalan and entrust him with such amount. He said, he and his wife are still “trying to discern what God wants them to accomplish with the win.”
Readers Digest is really one of the best magazine that you can find. With a lot of topics on various fields of interest, it is indeed – and still is, the best reading material around.
As I have said before, “if you’re going to subscribe to only one magazine in your lifetime, then Readers Digest should be it!”
I do look forward to renewing my subscription in RD someday, if only to expose my kids to the benefits of the magazine.
