The TRUE spirit of EDSA Revolution – is it still alive?
I was in first year college when the first People Power broke out, and I’m sure many can claim personal accounts of experiencing the emotions of being there in EDSA… fighting for freedom in the most peaceful way the world has ever seen.
Honestly, I can’t claim any of those personal experiences since I wasn’t there. I just watched all the developments on television. And being a working student then assigned in the library, I was fortunate to follow the event unfold daily in the newspapers too.
I’m not sure if I will get this right (lack of protein?), but I think a headline that says “It’s all over!” caused the whole nation to celebrate. It marked the end of the dictatorship and the birth of the new hope and freedom for the Filipinos.
February 25, 2009 marks the 23rd anniversary of the EDSA Revolution… but, where are we now?
23 years and four presidents later… are we still free? Are we learning and trekking the right path towards becoming a better nation?
The fact that a second EDSA Revolution was needed to be staged only proved that we were back to our old ways… or perhaps, never even departed from it all.
And another event which was loosely tagged ‘EDSA 3‘ seemed to totally destroy whatever honor is left on the memory of EDSA.
As it appears, the stories never changed… only the characters and plots do… but it’s always the same.
I don’t want to sound so pessimistic… I don’t want to lose hope… I still want to believe…
please… give me something to hope for…
Are we still a race that is worth dying for?
I really wish the TRUE spirit of EDSA is still alive today.

Why do you think the president declared Feb 25 a working day? Is she afraid of something?

Roy,
In my opinion (personal ko lang) EDSA is overrated.

@ jessie,
overrated isn’t the word that I might use for EDSA, ‘exploited’ and ‘abused’ I believe are the more appropriate terms
