Join the first Kapampangan Film Festival!
That’s right! The first film festival for Kapampangan movie makers!!
This project is spearhead by Jason Paul Laxamana, the guy behind Kalam, the first Kapampangan Telenovela.
This project was brought about by his experience in Cinema Rehiyon, a film festival where indie film makers from around the country gathered together to showcase their region’s talent in film making.
During his stint in the said event, he was the ‘lone’ warrior representing our Pampanga region.
Jason Paul has always been actively promoting Kapamapangan arts, an advocacy that is evident in his production of the “RocKapampangan,” an album of Kapampangan rock songs (the first ever), and of course his KapampangaNovela.
Despite his experience in the recent Cinema Rehiyon, Jason knows Kapampangans are people who are endowed with vast knowledge and talents in the arts.
That is why believing that he can pool together talented Kapampangan independent film makers, he organized CineKabalen, the first ever Kapampangan film festival.
And here is my humble effort to extend Jason’s invitation to all my Kapampangan readers to join his noble endeavour.
This is open to all – there are no age limits. One of the requirement though is that the dialogues should stricly be in Kapampangan and they are required to also have English subtitles.
Length of the film should be from 10 to 20 minutes only, while the setting of the movie does not necessarily have to be in Pampanga.
There are no limits to the number of entries, animated movies are allowed, but music videos won’t be accepted.
Submit your entries in playable DVD format not later than July 31, 2009 to the Juan D. Nepomuceno Center for Kapampangan Studies, Holy Angel University, Angeles City.
I am inviting all Kapampangan to join this film festival, and let us show the whole that movie making is yet another field of art we can excel.
Honestly, I am thinking if I can join… I may love to write. Maybe I can write a short story… but film making is something tried yet.
By the way, for inquiries and more details you can text Jason @ 0918 699 2459 or email sisig_man@yahoo.com.ph

Actually, the dialogues should be MAINLY in Kapampangan, meaning it’s the dominant language of the film. if the character is really English speaking or Cebuano speaking, of course, his/her lines can’t be in Kapampangan, right?
“Dialogues, if any, should predominantly be in Kapampangan. The use of non-Kapampangan languages is allowed as long as used in proper linguistic context.”

@ Jason,
Thank you very much for that clarification bro. Yes, you’re right, if the character in the story is not Kapampangan, he cannot speak the language. Thanks!

@ Elyong!
I guess there are, as Jason stated, other regions were well represented, while he was the only one from Pampanga. That’s why he thought of starting this movie festival.
